The fellow will be the team physician for Chillicothe High School during the school year. They will perform pre-participation exams, see sports injuries in a weekly training room setting, act as a consultant for the school’s athletic trainer, and provide sports coverage at all football games, home basketball games, and some wrestling matches. The fellow may also cover other sports such as volleyball and soccer at their discretion.
The fellow will aide in the planning and implementation of medical coverage for three varied mass sporting events.
- The Buck-Fifty 150 mile ultra endurance relay race: The fellow will aid the attending physician in the planning, implementation, and staffing of staged medical tents for the event, coordination of medical care with the race director and EMS. The fellow will staff the medical tent for at least 12 hours of this 36-hour event providing medical care/consultation for runners or coordinating with EMS in the emergent transport of athletes. The fellow, in conjunction with the race director and attending physician, will make decisions regarding runner safety as it relates to race-day weather conditions and warnings.
- The Chillicothe Half-Marathon: The fellow will aid in the planning, implementation, and staffing of the medical tent for the event. They will help in the coordination of race day medical care with the race director and EMS. The fellow will staff the medical tent for the duration of the event providing medical care/consultation for runners or coordinating with EMS in the emergent transport of athletes. The fellow, in conjunction with the race director and attending physician, will make decisions regarding runner safety as it relates to race-day weather conditions and warnings.
- The “Sand in the Streets” street volleyball tournament: The fellow will aid in the planning, implementation, and staffing of the medical tent for the event. They will help in the coordination of event day medical care with the event director and EMS. The fellow will staff the medical tent for the duration of the event providing medical care/consultation for participants or coordinating with EMS in the emergent transport of athletes. The fellow, in conjunction with the event director and attending physician, will make decisions regarding participant safety as it relates to event-day weather conditions and warnings.
