Preparing For Your Visit

You’ve chosen to trust us with your care, and we are honored to have that responsibility. We want you to have a successful, pleasant and comfortable stay with us, which is why we’ve put together some guidelines to help you prepare for your visit.

What to bring

Please only pack personal items that you will need during your hospital stay, like a robe or reading material. It’s also helpful for your caregivers to have a complete list of medications you’re taking.

Please note that the hospital is not responsible for personal items that are lost. Please leave jewelry, electronic devices or valuable items such as large amounts of cash, wallets or purses with a family member or friend.

Patient safety

Every patient of the Adena Health System has the right to expect safe, high quality care at all times. To provide the safest care possible, we must work together as a team. That’s why we are a strong supporter of the Speak Up campaign, which urges patients to speak up if there are questions or concerns with the care they or a loved one are receiving.

Adena also has security available on site. If you ever have an issue or safety concern, please let one of our staff know.

Food and nutrition

Good nutrition is the cornerstone to maintaining good health and recovering from illness. Your diet depends on your medical condition and may change throughout your stay from a regular heart healthy diet to meals meant to control blood sugar for diabetics. Any diet can be adjusted based on your preferences (such as your tolerance for texture or liquid consistencies).

A pantry is available on every unit that has small snacks and beverages. Please let our staff know if there is something you would like to eat between meals.

Guest trays for families are also always available. For a small fee, the guest tray will be delivered along with patient trays.

Outpatient medical nutrition therapy

If you need advice on how to best manage your diet for diabetes, cardiac disease, eating disorder, renal disease, cancer, malnutrition or sports nutrition, Adena can provide nutrition therapy. To schedule an appointment for nutrition therapy, call 740-779-7711. Appointments are available at Adena's main campus, as well as in Jackson, Waverly, Greenfield and Washington Court House.

Mail services

Incoming mail for our patients is delivered daily. If you are discharged and receive mail, we will forward to your home address. If you want to send mail during your stay, our staff can place stamped mail in our mailroom. Books of stamps or singles are available in the gift shop.

Interpreter services

If you have limited ability in speaking English, Adena can provide interpretive services. Our interpreters can provide communication with health care providers through most foreign languages and American sign language. If these services are needed, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance.

Chapel and pastoral care

Our hospitals have a chapel and offer pastoral care. Caregivers at each location can help patients request  a visit from the hospital chaplain.

Our chapel, located on the first floor by the north entrance, is open 24 hours a day. If you would like a visit from your pastor, tell a member of your health care team during your stay. Chapel service is every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon. Services begin at 2:30 p.m. and average around 15 minutes.

You can also request a visit from the Hospital Chaplain by dialing extension 7529 or by asking your health care team. The Hospital Chaplain is available Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. An on-call Chaplain can also be reached after hours.

Internet and computer policies

Wi-Fi is provided in all public areas and patient rooms. The hospital can’t make changes on personal laptops or computers for access; this is the responsibility of the patient or visitor.

Patient telephone

Patients can make outgoing calls at any time. Please let someone on your health care team know if you need help making the call. There is no charge for local calls to anywhere in Ross, Highland, Jackson and Pike Counties.

If you are a smoker and would like information about quitting, please ask a member of your health care team or call the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line at 800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669) for free and confidential advice.
