GreenLight Procedures

An enlarged prostate is the main cause of frequent urination, slow stream, hesitancy and nighttime urination in men. This minimally invasive procedure, also called prostate laser surgery, uses a green laser to vaporize prostate tissue that blocks urine from exiting the bladder. The procedure is done using thin fiber inserted into the urethra through a cystoscope. That means there are no incisions for a faster recovery time.

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP)

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the growth of prostate tissue, and can lead to obstruction of the bladder outlet and lower urinary tract symptoms. Holmium laser technology has been primarily utilized by urologists for the management of urinary calculi. However, use of this laser has been adopted for the surgical management of BPH through enucleation and morcellation of the prostate tissue. This technique mimics an open simple prostatectomy, but through a natural orifice approach without any incisions. HoLEP has shown superiority to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in regards to resected tissue weight and lower retreatment rates.  Whereas some surgical options for BPH are not indicated in large prostates, the American Urologic Association cites HoLEP as a surgical treatment option for BPH regardless of the prostate size.

InterStim therapy

Interstim therapy is a procedure designed to help men and women with bladder control problems by implanting a small medical device to send mild electrical pulses to the sacral nerve. Located just above the tailbone, this nerve controls the bladder and surrounding muscles that manage urinary function. The stimulation helps the brain and the nerves to communicate so the bladder and related muscles can function properly. The electrical stimulation often eliminates or relieves symptoms in most patients.

PTNS

Adena Urology offers percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), which is designed to help patients with overactive bladders return to living a normal life. PTNS is an office-based, minimally invasive treatment that indirectly stimulates the nerves responsible for bladder control using the tibial nerve in the lower part of your leg. The treatment is administered using a small, slim needle electrode near your tibial nerve, which is connected to a battery powered stimulator. The stimulator’s impulses travel to the tibial nerve, and then to the sacral nerve plexus, which is responsible for controlling bladder function.
