Adena Health Colon Cancer Awareness Run/Walk returns March 22

CHILLICOTHE, OH (February 20, 2025) – Approximately 150,000 Americans are newly diagnosed with colon cancer each year, demonstrating the importance of understanding how to recognize, prevent, treat, and beat the disease.

With that in mind, Adena Health is once again hosting a Colon Cancer Awareness 2 Mile Run/Walk Saturday, March 22. Besides offering the opportunity for fun physical fitness and fellowship, the event also provides valuable information to arm participants in the fight against colon cancer.

  • WHAT: Adena Health Colon Cancer Awareness 2 Mile Run/Walk
  • WHEN: Saturday, March 22, registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
  • WHERE: PACCAR Medical Education Building on the Adena Regional Medical Center campus, 446 Hospital Road, Chillicothe 
  • HOW MUCH: $30 or $35 for adults depending on t-shirt size; $20 for children. Proceeds support the Adena Health Foundation’s cancer fund and cancer care in the community.

The event also will include music, food, raffles, and a giant inflatable colon that attendees can tour to build awareness about colon cancer. Children ages three through eight will have the opportunity to take part in their own fun run and receive a medal for their participation.

Despite being preventable, treatable, and beatable, colon cancer remains the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. As part of the day’s activities, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the symptoms, prevention, screenings, and treatment of colon cancer.

Early detection of colon and rectal cancers is critical to successful treatment. Adena and the American Cancer Society recommend adults ages 45 to 75 who are at average risk of colorectal cancer be screened at least every 10 years, while those with a family history of colorectal cancer should begin screenings at the age of 40. Those who may be due for a colorectal screening should speak with their family doctor about screening options.
